On December 31, thousands of residents and visitors gathered to count down to the new year, immersing themselves in the bustling atmosphere with brilliant New Year's Eve fireworks launched from the Sky Tower, New Zealand's tallest building in Auckland. The highlight of the event was the colorful light show, creating a spectacular and impressive scene.
6 hours ahead of Vietnam time, New Zealanders welcomed New Year's Eve at 6:00 p.m. Vietnam time.
Many flocked to central Auckland or to the volcanoes surrounding the city to watch the fireworks and lights. This year’s event also took on a special significance as it celebrated the culture and rights of the indigenous Māori people, following a tumultuous year of protests over indigenous rights in New Zealand, a country of around 5 million people.
Auckland is not only the first major city in the world to ring in the new year, but it is also located in the South Pacific, where countries always welcome the new year first. The midnight bell here rings two hours before Sydney, 13 hours before London and 18 hours before New York.
This event marks a bright and meaningful start to 2025, bringing hope and joy to the city's residents and visitors alike.
