New York Police (NYPD) said a shooting incident occurred at around 1:40 a.m. on August 9 (local time) at the intersection of Street 44 and Avenue No. 7, Times Square area. The suspect is a 17-year-old boy who was identified as having opened fire while arguing with another person.
The incident injured 3 people, including an 18-year-old female young man who was shot in the neck and two men aged 19 and 65 who were shot in the legs. All three victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital and are currently in stable condition.
Immediately after committing the crime, the suspect was controlled by the police at the scene, along with the gun that was seized. Due to his underage age, the suspect's identity has not been announced and the charges have not been filed.
Video posted on social media X shows crowds in the popular tourist area outside hard Rock cafe panicking and running away when gunshots ring. Many police immediately arrived to control the situation, while one victim was taken to an ambulance.
The shooting shocked one of the busiest tourist destinations in the US, which was frequently crowded with tourists and locals. City officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the incident and consider measures to strengthen security in the area.
