According to Forbes' World Billionaire List, Moscow has risen to second place among the world's leading cities in terms of billionaires after adding new super-rich residents in the past year. Russian billionaires in Moscow currently hold total assets of 409 billion USD.
The report released last week said that the increase in billionaire residents has put Moscow ahead of Hong Kong (China) - the second-placed place last year.
This year, the Russian capital has the most billionaires, increasing by 16 to 90. including 11 new ones. The total assets of Moscow's super-rich have increased by 31 billion USD in the past year.
Oil tycoon Vagit Alekperov, with an estimated fortune of $28.7 billion, remains Moscow's top billionaire, with more than half of his fortune coming from a stake in oil company Lukoil, Forbes said.

The US city of New York still maintains its title as the leading city in terms of billionaires for the fourth consecutive year. This is home to 123 billionaires holding total assets worth 759 billion USD.
Hong Kong (China), currently ranked 3rd, has 72 billionaires with a total asset of 309 billion USD after losing 2 billionaires on the list in 2024. The city is still a leading center for billionaires in Asia.
London (UK) increased by 2 ranks, adding 9 billionaires, including 7 new ones. The UK capital is home to 71 billionaires, with a total estimated net worth of $355 billion.
Beijing (China) and Mumbai (India) are the 5th and 6th most popular cities for the super-rich in the world, respectively 68 and 67 billionaires.
Singapore ranked 7th with 60 billionaires, while Shanghai (China) and San Francisco (USA) ranked 8th with 58 billionaires each city. Los Angeles tops the list of 10 global cities with 56 billionaires.
According to Forbes, the world's 3,028 billionaires live in more than 800 cities, although nearly a quarter of them, with a total asset of $3.3 trillion, have chosen one of the top 10 cities as their homeland.
Forbes also said it was impossible to determine the prime residence of the 40 billionaires this year.
Meanwhile, according to the Bloomberg Billionaire Index, despite sanctions and a volatile economic situation, the assets of Russia's richest businessmen have increased by 11.572 billion USD in just the first 3 months of 2025.
