US President Donald Trump said that the possibility of resuming attacks on Iran is still raised, as the two sides have not reached a consensus on an agreement to end the conflict.
Speaking before boarding the plane in Florida, Mr. Trump said he had been informed of the "concept" of a proposal from Iran and was awaiting details. However, he expressed doubts about the possibility of acceptance, saying Tehran "has not paid a large enough price".
When asked about the possibility of restarting airstrikes, Mr. Trump emphasized that this is still an option if Iran "acts wrongly". On social media, he also affirmed that he is not satisfied with the latest proposal.
According to an Iranian official, the plan put forward by Tehran includes reopening the Strait of Hormuz and ending US blockades, while negotiations on the nuclear program will be postponed. This proposal was forwarded to Washington through intermediaries.
Iran said it is ready to pursue diplomatic paths if the US changes its approach. The proposal includes many contents such as the US withdrawing forces from the area around Iran, lifting sanctions, freezing frozen assets and ending hostilities on many fronts, including Lebanon.
The two sides have stopped air strikes for about four weeks, but have not made clear progress towards ending the conflict. The conflict has seriously disrupted global energy supplies as Iran has blocked almost all maritime operations through the Strait of Hormuz, a shipping route of about 20% of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas.
The US affirmed that it will not end the war unless an agreement is reached to prevent Iran from possessing nuclear weapons. Meanwhile, Tehran emphasized that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes.
Domestic pressure is also increasing on Mr. Trump as fuel prices rise, threatening to affect voters ahead of midterm elections. Despite saying he is not in a hurry, he still faces the requirement to find solutions to restore traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
