Mr. Trump announced this plan on social media on February 21, just before organizing a dinner reception for Republican governors at the White House, where he sat next to and chatted with Mr. Landry.
Cooperating with the wonderful Governor of Louisiana, Jeff Landry, we will send a wonderful hospital ship to Greenland to take care of many people who are sick and not cared for there. It's on its way!!!" - Mr. Trump said.
Both the White House and Mr. Landry's office did not answer questions about the post, whether the ship was requested by Denmark or Greenland and which patients needed help. The US Department of War did not make immediate comments.
Last week, Danish King Frederik made his second visit to Greenland in a year - an effort to show solidarity with this territory in the face of Mr. Trump's efforts to buy islands.
At the end of last month, Greenland, Denmark and the United States held talks to resolve the situation after months of tension in the NATO defense alliance.
Mr. Trump's post was released hours after the Danish Joint Arctic Command said it had evacuated a crew member in need of emergency medical treatment from a US submarine in the waters of Greenland, 7 nautical miles from the capital Nuuk of Greenland.
It is not clear whether Mr. Landry is involved in the incident or whether the post is related to the evacuation.
The US Navy has two hospital ships, Mercy and Comfort, but neither is stationed in Louisiana.
