North Korean President Kim Jong-un announced that the country's air force will be equipped with "new strategic military assets", North Korean state media reported on November 30.
Mr. Kim Jong-un made a statement at the event celebrating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the North Korean air force on November 28.
According to the state news agency KCNA, Kim Jong-un spoke without giving details: "The air force will be assigned new strategic military assets and a new important mission."
He added that the air force must "resolutely repel and control all possible spying and military Provasion by the enemy."
Meanwhile, North Korea has not responded to South Korea's offer for talks to avoid random military clashes along the two countries' common border. This month, Seoul proposed that the two sides hold military talks to discuss the so-called Military Border Road, citing repeated encroachments by the North Korean military.
On November 24, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said Pyongyang had taken "extreme action" by installing a three-layered barbed wire fence along the border.
Mr. Lee Jae Myung warned: "We have reached a situation where we do not know when a random collision could happen. All communication lines have been cut. They are refusing any dialogue or contact. It's a very dangerous state."
