On November 24, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung warned of the risk of an unexpected collision with North Korea as Pyongyang cut off all communication channels with Seoul.
He said that the relationship between the two sides has become hostile and confrontational, while trust between the two sides is almost gone. This position he made while on a flight from South Africa to Turkey after attending the G20 summit.
Mr. Lee Jae Myung said that North Korea has continuously made extreme statements and actions, including installing three layers of barbed wire fences in the border area. According to him, the situation has reached the point where it is impossible to predict the time of the sudden conflict. North Korea's refusal to accept any form of dialogue makes the risk of escalation even more worrying.
Since taking office, President Lee Jae Myung has pushed for more efforts to reduce tensions and expressed his willingness for unconditional dialogue. Seoul recently proposed holding military talks with Pyongyang to avoid border incidents, marking the first invitation in seven years. However, North Korea has not yet responded to these requests.
While South Korea maintains an open stance, North Korea has condemned the agreement between South Korea and the US on developing nuclear-powered Submarine. Pyongyang said the deal reflects the intention of confrontation and would create a nuclear domino effect in the region.
