North Korean President Kim Jong Un declared that his country will continue to support Russia's policies, according to KCNA news agency. The statement was made in the context of Mr. Kim discussing the international political situation with the Russian delegation led by Defense Minister Andrei Belousov.
The Russian delegation attended the inauguration ceremony of a memorial to honor North Korean soldiers who died in combat with Russian forces.
Mr. Kim Jong Un emphasized that the North Korean government will "continue to fully support" Russia's policies in protecting sovereignty, territorial integrity and security interests. He also met with Mr. Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the Russian State Duma, reaffirming the intention to strengthen bilateral relations under the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement between the two countries.
This message was also reinforced in President Vladimir Putin's letter sent on the occasion of the completion of the memorial, affirming that Russia and North Korea will continue to strengthen relations through joint efforts.
North Korea has recently promoted the honoring of soldiers who fought in Russia, considering them a symbol of sacrifice and loyalty. In a handwritten message at the memorial ceremony, Mr. Kim Jong Un affirmed that those who fell will "live forever with the great glory they have protected".
