China National Oil and Gas Group (CNPC) announced the completion of the deepest vertical drill in Asia, when the "Shenditake 1" drill reached a depth of 10,910m in the northwest desert of China, Xinhua reported.
The "Shenditake 1" drill is located in the center of the Taklimakan desert in tarim basin, the Tan Cuong Ugyur Autonomous Region. Record-breaking deep hole "Shenditake 1" is a scientific exploration project.
In addition to searching for oil and gas resources, the drill is also designed to promote research on the development of the Earth and underground geology.
"Shenditake 1" is the world's second vertical drill, contributing to the global technical breakthrough, including the deepestcement of cement.
According to CNPC, the drilling operation began on May 30, 2023. The 10,910m drilling process was completed in more than 580 days, of which more than half the time was, about 300 days to drill the deepest 910m.
Drilling holes in China have traveled through 12 geological layers, touching rock layers that date back more than 500 million years.
To support the project, CNPC has developed the world's first 12,000m automatic drilling rig and an advanced set of super-deep well logging tools.
Chinese scientists have also compiled the country's first comprehensive superdeep geological records through a system of core samples and data at a depth of 10,000m, providing important understanding of the deep composition of the Earth and the history of creation.

According to the BBC, the super deep Kola hole is the deepest artificial hole on Earth, 12,262m deep, completed in 20 years. This super-deep hole is located in the Kola Peninsula, Russia, deep in the Arctic.
