The US agreed to resume military aid and share intelligence with Ukraine after Kiev expressed its willingness to accept a 30-day ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The US and Ukraine issued a joint statement after officials met in Saudi Arabia on March 11, emphasizing that Kiev was ready to listen to the US proposal "to issue an immediate temporary ceasefire for 30 days and could be extended by mutual consent of the parties".
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared on Telegram that the proposed ceasefire would "establish a complete 30-day ceasefire, not only related to missiles, drones and bombs, not only in the Black Sea but also on the entire frontline".
US President Donald Trump hopes Russia will agree to the ceasefire plan, and revealed that the US will hold a meeting with Russia late on March 11 or on March 12.
After the progress made in negotiations with Ukraine, the US announced "immediately lifting the temporary suspension of intelligence sharing and resuming security assistance" to Kiev, which had been suspended since last week.
The suspension of information sharing comes after a controversy between President Trump and President Zelensky at the White House as part of discussions on an agreement to allow the US to access rare earth minerals in Ukraine.
The statement from the March 11 meeting confirmed that the rare earth agreement has been brought back to the negotiation table, and the two countries will "come up as soon as possible with a comprehensive agreement on the development of Ukraine's key mineral resources to expand Ukraine's economy and ensure long-term prosperity and security for Ukraine".
