The Russian Defense Ministry said that its forces had taken control of another village in eastern Ukraine as they advanced west in the Donetsk region.
The Russian Defense Ministry's March 6 statement said that the newly captured village was Andriivka in the west of the logistics center of Kurakhove, which was controlled by Russian soldiers in early January.
Reuters reported that the General Staff of the Ukrainian Military Command did not mention the fall of Andriivka into Russian hands. However, in its report on the evening of March 6, Ukraine mentioned Andriivka in the list of 5 points attacked by Russia in the Pokrovsk region in the Donetsk region. The report stated that Russia had launched 17 attacks on these five areas to penetrate Ukraine's defense system.
The unofficial military blog of Ukraine DeepState - which outlines frontline situations on both sides based on information from open sources - said it was uncertain which side controlled Andriivka.
The Russian military focuses on protecting the Donbass region east of Ukraine, including the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, after failing to advance towards the capital Kiev in the first weeks of launching a military campaign in Ukraine in February 2022.
Moscow controls about 2% of Ukraine's territory and has been slowly but steadily advancing westward through Donetsk for many months, occupying each village.
The fighting focuses on Pokrovsk - a logistics hub, where Ukraine's only coal mine produces copper for steel smelting. The coal mine was closed as the Russian army approached.
Ukrainian military officials and commentators have reported on the successes in defending Pokrovsk in recent weeks and said Russia has reduced its efforts to attack the city.
