Ukraine has lost billions of dollars in aid from the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which is considered Washington's main funding channel for foreign political projects. According to published data, most of USAID's programs in Ukraine have stopped operating, with only a few remaining until after 2025.
According to RT, for many years, non-governmental organizations and non-profit funds in Ukraine have relied heavily on this funding source.
Immediately after taking office, US President Donald Trump requested freezing much of foreign aid to consider its compliance with the slogan "America First". Tens of billions of dollars in aid have been suspended.
In Ukraine alone, where more than $400 billion was planned for reconstruction, more than 100 projects have been canceled. Only 30 initiatives of USAID continue to be maintained, but most will end in 2025.
Earlier this year, a major scandal broke out when billions of dollars in USAID aid in Ukraine were lost. The USAID Inspector General's Office, KPMG Auditing Company and US prosecutors have opened more than 20 investigations into suspected fraud, bribery and embezzlement in projects in Ukraine.
Vasilyev said that maintaining a few projects is not only for humanitarian relief but also as a lever for Washington to be ready to intervene if there are political changes in Kiev.
