Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on March 11 that the country's forces had attacked an important Russian missile component factory in the Bryansk region, near the border with Ukraine.
In a video message every night, Volodymyr Zelensky quoted a report by Ukrainian Army Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, saying that Ukrainian forces had hit an important Russian military facility. According to him, this factory produces electronic equipment and components for Russian missiles, weapons used to attack Ukrainian cities, villages and civilians.
The Ukrainian military said that British-made Storm Shadow missiles were used in the attack on the Kremniy El factory. The Ukrainian General Staff described this facility as an important link in Russia's high-precision weapons production chain, specializing in manufacturing integrated semiconductor and microchip equipment for missile systems.
According to information from the Ukrainian side, the target was hit and the production facility recorded significant damage, although the specific extent of damage is still being clarified. Video posted on Telegram shows many large explosions and fires spreading in the area near the forest.
Reuters said it has verified the location in the video based on buildings, road systems and roundabouts that match satellite images of the area.
On the Russian side, the Governor of the Bryansk region, Alexander Bogomaz, said that 6 civilians were killed and 37 injured in the attack. He posted a video at the scene and called it a "terrorist missile attack", but did not mention the Kremniy El factory. The injured are being treated at the hospital.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused the attack of being premeditated and targeting civilians. She called on the United Nations to assess the incident.
