On September 8, Israeli officials said five people were killed in a shootout in Jerusalem, amid the ongoing intense Israeli military attack on Gaza.
According to Magen David Adom (MDA) - Israel's emergency, rescue, first aid and national blood bank, there are currently 5 other people who have also been evacuated in a "serious" state with injuries caused by shots after the shooting at Ramot Intersection.
MDA said that some others were "reduced by broken glass" and were treated at the scene.
Israeli police have described the shooting as a "terrorist attack".
Police said the two attackers were "dethroned" immediately after the fire broke out, but did not provide information about the condition of the attackers.
Roads around the area where the terrorist attack occurred are being blocked and according to police, a large force is also moving to the scene to expand the investigation.
Notably, Israel has not seen such a serious incident occurring in its territory for a long time, according to officials. The most recent similar shooting in the Jerusalem area was in November 2023.
The Israeli military radio said the police now suspect that the perpetrators of the attack were Palestinians from the West Bank, rather than from East Jerusalem as previously reported.
According to witnesses, the two perpetrators, including one wearing a ticket checking employee's clothes, sneaked onto a bus and started filming.
