Of the six F-16 fighter jets Thailand is preparing to deploy along the border, one targeted Cambodia and destroyed a military target, the Thai military said.
Previously, both Thailand and Cambodia accused each other of causing the collision in the early morning of July 24. The incident at the Ta Moan Thom temple is being disputed along the eastern border between Cambodia and Thailand, about 360km from the Thai capital Bangkok.
"We have used air forces against planned military targets," Deputy Spokesperson of the Thai military Richa Suksuwanon told reporters. Thailand has also closed its border with Cambodia.
Cambodia's Defense Ministry accused the Thai plane of dropping two bombs on a road and Cambodia condemned Thailand's move.
The fighting comes after Thailand summoned its ambassador to Cambodia late on July 23 and announced that it would deport a Cambodian sending man to Bangkok after the second Thai soldier lost a leg within a week due to a mine placed in the disputed area.
The Thai Foreign Ministry accused the Cambodian army of firing heavy firecrackers at a Thai military base on the morning of July 24 as well as targeting civilian areas, including a hospital, causing casualties for civilians.
Cambodia's Foreign Ministry said that Thailand's airstrikes were unfounded and called on neighboring countries to withdraw troops, restraining any provinceous actions that could escalate the situation.
According to the latest information from the Thai military, the fighting on the Thai-Cambodian border on July 24 took place at at at least 6 locations and killed at least 9 Thai civilians and injured 14 soldiers.
For more than a century, Thailand and Cambodia have been fighting for sovereignty at many locations not yet defined along the 817km long land border, leading to years-long fighting that killed at least dozens of people, including a week-long fighting in 2011.
Tensions flared up again in May this year after a Cambodian soldier was killed in a gunfight with Thai soldiers. The tensions escalated into a full-scale diplomatic crisis and led to the current armed clashes.
