After Vietnam's 3-0 victory over Indonesia in the 4th match of Group A of the ASEAN Cup 2026, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has published an article praising the performance of coach Kim Sang-sik's team.
On the homepage, AFC said that this victory is meaningful to affirm the position of the reigning regional champion. The Vietnamese team is assessed to have controlled the game well, effectively taking advantage of opportunities to quickly create an advantage right in the first half.
According to AFC, the Vietnamese team had an impressive start when scoring two goals after only 15 minutes of play. In the 6th minute, from a left-wing combination between Nguyen Hai Long and Nguyen Hoang Duc, the ball was brought to a favorable position for Nguyen Van Vi to finish and open the score.
In the 15th minute, Thanh Long made an accurate long pass for Hai Long to run down to face goalkeeper Nadeo Argawinata before doubling the gap. In the second half, Nguyen Xuan Son sealed a 3-0 victory in the 70th minute, helping the Vietnamese team complete their convincing performance away from home.
Besides effective attacking ability, AFC also appreciates the solidity of the Vietnamese national team's defense. The red shirt team maintained a reasonable formation distance, significantly limiting dangerous opportunities that Indonesia created throughout the match.
This victory helps Vietnam have 7 points after 3 matches, rising to the top of Group A thanks to a better goal difference than Singapore. Meanwhile, Indonesia dropped to third place with 6 points.
In the last match of the group stage taking place on August 7th at My Dinh Stadium, the Vietnamese team will host Cambodia. Just needing to get 1 point, coach Kim Sang-sik's team will officially win the right to enter the semi-finals of ASEAN Cup 2026 with the top spot in Group A.
