Trying to maintain achievements
According to the preparation plan for the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation and the table tennis department (Vietnam Department of Physical Education and Sports) will work towards agreeing on the participation and participation in all 7 events (men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, men's doubles, women's team) in Thailand.
In the last 4 SEA Games in 2017 (in Malaysia), 2019 (in the Philippines), 2022 (in Vietnam), 2023 (in Cambodia), the Vietnam Table Tennis Team won 1 Gold Medal.
When the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation 7 (2024-2029) was launched, the manager and the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation Department confirmed that the highest focusing goal was to ensure medal achievements in the SEA Games arena. At the same time, Vietnamese table tennis must be directed to the arenas in Asia.
This year, the mission to achieve achievements at SEA Games 33 was considered by General Secretary of the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation - Mr. Nguyen Nam Hai as a key. 2 years ago, we achieved a gold medal (men-women's double content) at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia. With SEA Games 33, the Vietnamese table tennis team expects to ensure the results are holding.
When preparing professionally to participate in the 31st SEA Games (May 2022) and 32nd SEA Games (May 2023), the Vietnam Table Tennis Team once had the target of striving to win 1 to 2 Gold Medals. In reality, Vietnamese athletes have encountered many difficulties against leading tennis players in Southeast Asia in the above two Games. For that reason, Vietnamese table tennis is very cautious for the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand.
Will choose the best people
Currently, table tennis is a sport that has not been concentrated in the National Team in 2025. This May, the 2025 National Table Tennis Championship will take place and from the competition results of the athletes, the Vietnam Table Tennis Team will be trained.
The last time the Vietnam Table Tennis Team trained to compete was when participating in the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship. The squad that head coach Doan Kien Quoc gathered at that time included Nguyen Anh Tu, Nguyen Duc Tuan, Doan Ba Tuan Anh, Nguyen Dang Hiep, Dinh Anh Hoang, Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh, Nguyen Bach Thanh Thu, Nguyen Thi Nga, Tran Mai Ngoc, Mai Hoang My Trang. At the end of the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship, the Vietnam Table Tennis Team won 1 Gold Medal, 3 Silver Medals and 2 Bronze Medals.
The most effective achievement is the Gold Medal in the women's singles event of tennis player Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh.
At the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship, fans witnessed after many years that we have tennis players participating in the 2 finals of the 2 most important events: Men's singles, women's singles. Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh competed in the women's singles final and won. Nguyen Anh Tu participated in the men's singles final but lost the match.
"The results of the National Championship always have an important professional value for Vietnam table tennis to choose the player of the Vietnam table tennis team. However, in terms of professional ability, we forecast that the players who have participated in the Vietnam table tennis team have played the Southeast Asia Championship 2024 still stable, prospect of continuing training this year, '' said the representative of the Vietnam Sport.
Since the 2024 Southeast Asia Championship, Vietnam table tennis has found that countries in the region began to prepare forces for SEA Games 33. This year, Vietnam did not attend the 2025 World Championship, while countries like Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines all sent players to participate. These athletes are expected to be the pillar of the national team at the 33th SEA Games.
