Entering the clash with Timor-Leste on the evening of August 3, the Cambodian team set a goal to win all 3 points to nurture hopes of competing for a position in Group A of the ASEAN Cup 2026. Although rated higher, the home team faced many difficulties against the opponent's crowded defensive play in the early minutes.
After many efforts, Cambodia broke the deadlock in the 16th minute. From a cross from the left wing by Sokha, Hav Soknet jumped high to head close range, opening the score for the home team.
Timor-Leste also created some notable counter-attacks in the first half. Zion Cruz had two chances but both failed to beat goalkeeper Hul Kimhuy, while Rangel's free kick sent the ball over the crossbar.
In the opposite direction, goalkeeper Dylan Jose Niski continuously saved Timor-Leste with many excellent saves, helping the away team only lose 0-1 after the first 45 minutes.
At the beginning of the 2nd half, Timor-Leste had a clear opportunity to equalize when organizing a counter-attack with the advantage of numbers. However, hesitation in finishing made the away team miss the opportunity.
Just two minutes later, Cambodia punished the opponent's mistake. Vanda Mon accelerated on the left wing before crossing favorably for Hav Soknet to easily tap the ball into the net, completing a double and increasing the score to 2-0.
With the lead, Cambodia continued to control the game. In the 90th minute, Mon Rado headed accurately after a cross from the left wing, sealing a 3-0 victory for the home team.
This is Cambodia's first victory at ASEAN Cup 2026. With this result, the pagoda country team has more confidence before the away match at the Vietnamese team's stadium in the next match taking place on August 7.
Meanwhile, Timor-Leste closed their journey at the tournament with 4 consecutive defeats and no goals scored.
