LeBron (39 years old) and Bronny James (20 years old) made history in the American Professional Basketball League (NBA) on Tuesday (local time), becoming the first father and son pair to play together in an official game of the season when the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 110-103.
They played together in a preseason game earlier this month, and in their most recent game, they were on the court late in the second quarter at Crypto.com Arena with the Lakers leading 51-35.
The crowd cheered as the James family headed to the scorer's table to check in, just as the Lakers were taking a double-digit lead.
As he was about to enter the court, LeBron told Bronny, "Are you ready? Do you feel the intensity? Just play easy."
In a perfectly scripted Hollywood moment, the performance of James and his father was watched from the sidelines by Ken Griffey Sr. and Ken Griffey Jr., who made baseball history when they played for the Seattle Mariners as father and son in 1990-1991.
"That moment is something I'll never forget, no matter how old I get, my memory might fade as I get older or whatever. I'll never forget that moment," said LeBron, who started Tuesday by celebrating his daughter Zhuri Nova's 10th birthday.
"Everything was great today, everything - from the moment I woke up. Obviously this is the first time in the beautiful history of the NBA that a father and son are on the same floor, let alone on the same team. It's great."
Bronny had a rough start, however, spending 2 minutes and 41 seconds on the field, making two missed shots before being substituted.
He expressed gratitude for the "energy" Lakers fans showed him.
NBA superstar LeBron, who turns 40 in December, admitted in his pre-game speech that he could barely contain his excitement at the prospect of fulfilling a long-cherished dream of sharing the court with his son.
LeBron also said that he would love to accompany his son in his first steps into professional basketball.
Bronny was selected by the Lakers with the 55th pick in the June draft.
