On September 10, the Vietnam Student Support and Development Center signed a cooperation agreement with New Sports Joint Stock Company to organize the Vietnam Collegiate Basketball Championship (VCBC) .
This is a meaningful tournament and marks an important turning point in promoting the school sports movement and creating opportunities for exchange and learning for students nationwide.
The first VCBC Vietnam Student Basketball Tournament in 2024 brings together 16 men's teams and 8 women's teams from universities, competing from November 2024 to May 2025.
In the first organization, the tournament is expected to be held in Hanoi city, in the following years it will gradually expand to major cities, move towards organizing nationwide and become a sport in the Vietnam Student Sports Tournament system.
This is the first tournament for students to compete in a home-away format. In particular, in order to improve the professionalism and experience of participating athletes, the tournament allows teams to use professional athletes, foreign athletes studying at the school, along with that, teams will be able to use up to two alumni, promising to bring top performances.
In addition, within the framework of the tournament, the Organizing Committee will design workshops on basketball skills, first aid techniques, pre-match warm-ups and stretches, etc. to help young people improve their skills and gain more useful knowledge.
According to the format, the tournament will be divided into 2 groups A and B for both men and women. The teams will compete in a round-robin format, home and away. Teams in the same group will meet each other in turn.
At the end of phase 1, each group will take the 4 teams (for men) and 2 teams (for women) with the best results to participate in phase 2. In phase 2, the teams will compete at a neutral venue with the Best of 3 format.
The teams with high rankings in the tournament will receive certificates of merit from the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association, the Championship Cup (for the champion team), and medals. The champion team will receive 25 million VND, the runner-up team will receive 10 million VND, and the third-place team will receive 5 million VND/team (applicable to both men's and women's categories).
In addition to the collective awards, the organizers also awarded individual awards, as well as community awards for impressive cheering moments of the tournament.
