In the afternoon vote on June 13 in Russia, FIFA announced the host for the 2026 World Cup, the first World Cup with 48 teams.
This FIFA vote was held publicly, broadcast live on many major information channels; unlike 2010 when choosing the host for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, FIFA held them secretly.
The US will host 60/80 matches of the 2026 World Cup, the remaining 20 matches will be accompanied by Canada and Mexico. In the matches from the quarterfinals onwards, the US is the 100% "contractor". MetLife Stadium in New York, USA (capacity of 87,000 seats) is being suggested as the venue for the final match.
According to initial predictions, the three hosts of the 2026 World Cup will earn at least 14 billion USD. However, the actual figures when accounting will be much more terrible.
Of the three co-host countries, the US and Mexico have had experience organizing in 1994 and 1986. Meanwhile, Canada is "westerly and steadily" to receive this honor for the first time.
The reason FIFA organizes the 2026 World Cup host country selection publicly is because this agency wants to avoid negative news aimed at it. Previously, when choosing Russia and Qatar as host countries for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, FIFA was heavily criticized for suspected ballot purchases and arranged results.
North America has this honor, it is impossible not to mention the efforts of US President Donald Trump. Two months ago, Mr. Trump posted a status on his Twitter page saying that the US, Mexico and Canada could host the 2026 World Cup. Finally, those efforts and wishes of Mr. Trump came true after only 2 months.
