In 1989, he was Director of the Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts in Ho Chi Minh City until his retirement in 1997.
He wrote many famous songs, such as Chiem den Meo, Hang em den can dao, Co gai sai Gon di den dan - A prize of the Vietnam Musicians Association and the Central Unity Committee, Ben don Bo Monument, De dam tim oi.
His later songs have Southern folk melodies. In particular, the song "The Southern Land Song" - released in 1997 (the music of the Southern Land movie - director Nguyen Vinh Son) is loved by many generations of audiences.
In 2019, the late musician and his wife donated the family library including all the collected folk songs and documents to Mr. Tran Vuong Thach - former Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Symphony and Drama Theater (HBSO), because they both have a deep love in the profession and share a passion for music research.
