In the early morning of May 18th Vietnam time, Le Quang Liem completed the DreamHack Atlanta Computer Chess Tournament 2026 (USA).
This is considered a qualifying round to compete for an official spot to participate in the 2026 World Esports Cup (Esports World Cup 2026 – EWC 2026).
After passing the group stage the day before, Le Quang Liem started playing the quarter-finals for the 8 best players. In the quarter-finals, Le Quang Liem defeated player Oleksandr Bortnyk 1-0.
The victory helped Le Quang Liem win the right to enter the semi-finals. However, in the semi-finals, the Vietnamese chess grandmaster lost to Alexey Sarana.
Therefore, Le Quang Liem must continue to play the next match for the losing bracket. In these matches, Quang Liem won 2-0 against player Andrey Esipenko and lost 0.5-1.5 to Alexey Sarana in the rematch. Overall result, Le Quang Liem is ranked 3rd at the DreamHack Atlanta 2026 tournament (USA).
The regulations of the tournament stipulate that 4 chess players with the best results will receive a ticket to participate in the 2026 World Esports Cup. Thus, grandmaster Le Quang Liem officially has a ticket to participate in the above tournament.
The 2026 World Esports Cup is expected to host 24 sports. Chess will be played on computers, considered one of the 24 official sports of the tournament. The 2026 World Esports Cup will take place in Saudi Arabia in August this year.
In June, Le Quang Liem is expected to go to Thailand to compete in the ASEAN Esports Chess Cup 2026 tournament.
