Vietnam sports review after the SEA Games

Hoài Việt |

The Vietnamese sports delegation ended the 33rd SEA Games competition in Thailand with the 3rd place overall with 278 medals in the participating events.

Successful or unsuccessful

This is still a question that the media and experts are looking for answers from the results of the Vietnam Sports Delegation at the recent 33rd SEA Games.

Overall, we won 278 medals (87 Gold Medals, 81 Silver Medals, 110 Bronze Medals) just closely following the goal set before the competition, which is to achieve 90 to 110 Gold Medals. However, the 3rd place of the whole delegation with 87 Gold Medals clearly reflects the professional quality and investment of the sports industry in the national teams to participate in the 33rd SEA Games.

Although coaches and athletes have determined to compete with all their might, there are still competitions that have not achieved the expected results: Weightlifting, archery, judo, cycling, tennis, table tennis.

Previously, at the 30th SEA Games (2019), Vietnam achieved 98 HCV (second place); the 31st SEA Games (2022) won 205 HCV (first place); the 32nd SEA Games (2023) achieved 136 HCV (first place).

Head of the Vietnamese sports delegation - Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh - answered the press in Thailand that after the 33rd SEA Games, the sports industry will certainly have reports, assessments and specific analysis of each competition result of each national team and draw practical experience. Meanwhile, Deputy Head of the Vietnam Sports Delegation - Mr. Hoang Quoc Vinh said that Vietnamese sports continue to invest in key sports groups to improve professional achievements in regional and continental competitions.

The stepping stone of ASIAD 20

Head of the delegation Nguyen Hong Minh believes that the achievements of the Olympic events and events competed in at the 33rd SEA Games by Vietnamese athletes are to complete their tasks and satisfy the experts.

We have won 87 Gold Medals when competing in 443 events out of a total of 573 official events at the congress. Of these, Vietnamese sports won 59 Gold Medals in sports and events in the Olympic group (3 sports with the most Gold Medals are athletics (12 sports), weight (10), shooting (8).

After 1 week, Vietnamese sports will enter a new cycle. The sports industry will develop a plan to continue competing in the 20th ASIAD in 2026 in Japan. The leaders of the Vietnam Sports Delegation affirmed that the competition results at the 33rd SEA Games are the premise for considering and determining the force towards ASIAD 20.

We have always aimed to win about 5 gold medals at this congress. Therefore, the key faces who have just won the 33rd SEA Games will take the responsibility of winning medals at the 20th ASIAD arena.

Remember that after the 31st and 32nd SEA Games ended with many HCV achievements, the Vietnam Sports Delegation was still very cautious to predict the possibility of achieving the 5th HCV result at the 19th ASIAD in 2023 in China. However, we only achieved 3 goals in the above Congress.

If athletes do not experience the opportunities to compete in the SEA Games, they are unlikely to achieve results at the ASIAD. Each congress has different professional values. In the meantime, Vietnamese sports have a practical professional assessment, so the preparation is the most thorough.
