First Time of Trịnh Văn Vinh
Currently, weightlifting of Vietnam is the most important hope left for the Vietnam Sports Delegation to achieve a medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Weightlifter Trịnh Văn Vinh shared that his spirit is very good and he has confidence in competing when he was present in France.
The coaching staff of the Vietnam weightlifting team has two people directly responsible for Trịnh Văn Vinh at the 2024 Paris Olympics, namely Lưu Văn Thắng and Nguyễn Mạnh Thắng.
Before the Vietnam weightlifting team prepared for weightlifter Trịnh Văn Vinh to participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Director of the High-Performance Sports Department 2 (General Department of Physical Education and Sports) - Mr. Ngô Ích Quân once expressed: “We will participate in the Olympic arena with all our ability, and when we compete, we will focus maximally. Trịnh Văn Vinh is a player with a very large determination, so we trust that he will achieve his ability when competing officially”.
The content of men's 61kg weightlifting at the 2024 Paris Olympics has 12 weightlifters participating. To succeed in the group with a medal, Trịnh Văn Vinh must overcome 9 other weightlifters, at which point the opportunity to achieve a medal will become a reality. Trịnh Văn Vinh once shared that he has a determination to surpass his personal limits.
Searching for Personal Impression
This is the first time Trịnh Văn Vinh has participated in the Olympics in his career. Many predictions say that the weightlifter of Vietnam will have a personal impression because he has gone through the preparation of actual competition at the SEA Games, ASIAD, and won the Asian and World Championships in the 2023 and 2024 periods, then Trịnh Văn Vinh has accumulated experience for himself.
Trịnh Văn Vinh achieved a total weight of 294kg and ranked 9th, winning a spot to officially participate in the 2024 Paris Olympics. According to the registration, Văn Vinh was assigned a total weight of 303kg by the coaching staff before the competition. According to the regulations, before officially competing, athletes will have a warm-up weight at the snatch and then the clean and jerk. Based on the registered weight, the ranking of the athletes will be determined.
The two weightlifters who ranked first in the 61kg men's event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics (Japan) are both present at this competition in Paris (France), namely Lifabin (China, total weight 313kg) and Eko Yuli Irawan (Indonesia, 302kg). At the Tokyo Olympics (Japan), the weightlifter who won the Bronze Medal was Igor Son (Kazakhstan) with a total weight of 294kg.
This is the weight that is equal to the index that Trịnh Văn Vinh achieved when competing in the 2024 World Cup to win a spot to participate in this Olympics. However, many weightlifters have achieved a total weight over 300kg and ranked in the top group in the world in the 61kg men's category, all of whom are present at the 2024 Paris Olympics, such as Lifabin (China), Morris Hampton Miller (USA), Massidda Sergio (Italy), Eko Yuli Irawan (Indonesia), Ceniza John Febuar (Philippines).
Coach Lưu Văn Thắng of the Vietnam weightlifting team shared that the actual competition and tactics at the time of registering the weight for the athlete will determine the success or failure when competing on the mat. Each country has its strongest athlete participating, so each country has the best preparation. The 12 competitors should have equal opportunities to achieve the highest results.
The best total weight achievement in Trịnh Văn Vinh's career is 307kg. Our weightlifter achieved this at the 2017 SEA Games to win the Gold Medal. However, at that time, Trịnh Văn Vinh was 22 years old. Later, Trịnh Văn Vinh won the Silver Medal at the 2018 ASIAD with a total weight of 299kg. At the 19th ASIAD held in 2023 in Hangzhou (China), Trịnh Văn Vinh achieved a total weight of 292kg.
Now, our number 1 weightlifter has entered the age of 29 and is no longer a surprise factor among his opponents. On the other hand, Trịnh Văn Vinh has the experience of professionalism and the calmness when competing.
If he succeeds in his six lifts (three snatch lifts and three clean and jerk lifts) and has a result in the group of weightlifters who achieve a medal, Trịnh Văn Vinh will make history as the first weightlifter of Vietnam to achieve a result in the 61kg men's category at an Olympic Games.
