On the side of Ha Giang province, there were Mr. Nguyen Manh Dung - Acting Secretary of Ha Giang Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Vang Seo Con - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province and leaders of Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee.
Trade unions accompany disaster areas
Reporting to the working group, the leader of the Ha Giang Provincial People's Committee said that during the recent storm No. 3, all levels focused on closely directing and drastically implementing response measures. In particular, 82 households in areas at high risk of landslides were proactively evacuated, so human losses were limited to the lowest level.
As of September 11, Ha Giang province had 2 dead and missing people, 1,200 houses affected, of which 82 were completely washed away, and nearly 2,000 hectares of rice and crops were damaged. The estimated damage is over 100 billion VND and may increase. Since the beginning of 2024, floods have caused more than 900 billion VND in damage to Ha Giang.
Speaking at the meeting, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang sympathized with Ha Giang province about the loss of life and property caused by natural disasters. At the same time, he highly appreciated the close and proactive response of Ha Giang province in responding to storms and floods, minimizing human losses.
"I believe that Ha Giang province will continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, mutual love, and overcome the current difficulties. The province also needs to quickly count the damage, focus on overcoming it, and report to the Central Government to provide timely support to help people stabilize their lives," emphasized President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang.
According to Chairman Nguyen Dinh Khang, in the immediate future, based on the report and proposal of the Ha Giang Provincial Federation of Labor, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has provided initial support to union members, workers and laborers affected by natural disasters. When specific data is available, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will continue to provide timely support.
In the presence of President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang, the Bank Trade Union presented 500 million VND to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ha Giang province to support people affected by natural disasters.
Mr. Vang Seo Con - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ha Giang province respectfully expressed his thanks to the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Golden Heart Charitable Social Fund and the industry unions for their support and sharing with people affected by natural disasters. At the same time, he affirmed that the support will be used for the right purpose and delivered directly to the affected families.
Timely support for union members and workers
On the afternoon of September 12, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang and the working delegation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor visited, encouraged, and presented gifts to a number of union members' and workers' households whose houses were affected by natural disasters and floods in Bac Me district.
Ms. Ban Thi Phuong, a teacher at Giap Trung Kindergarten (Bac Me) had her house urgently damaged by landslides after the recent floods. Ms. Phuong and her husband have low incomes so they cannot repair it immediately. The timely encouragement and support from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor made her very emotional.
Ms. Ban said: "Recently, due to the storm and flood, my house was eroded. My family was worried and didn't know how to repair it. Now that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has visited us and has a support plan to rebuild, I feel more confident."
Nearby, Mr. Nong Van Thanh's house in Yen Phu town was also severely eroded and is in urgent need of evacuation. Mr. Thanh said: "Today, I was very touched to be visited and given gifts by the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. This is also the motivation for my family to overcome difficulties."
President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang shared the difficulties and hoped that the families would make efforts to overcome them and soon stabilize their lives.
"We hope that local authorities and trade unions at all levels will survey and evaluate to provide timely support for union members and workers whose houses have been affected so that they can soon have funds to repair and settle down," emphasized President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang.
In Bac Me district, witnessed by President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang, Ms. Phan Thu Thuy - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Lao Dong Newspaper presented 500 million VND from the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund to Bac Me district to help people affected by natural disasters.
Previously, in 2023, the Golden Heart Charity Fund also donated 20 breeding cows to poor households in Thuong Tan Commune (Bac Me), each breeding cow costing 15 million VND. In addition, 10 poor households in the area were given gifts worth 10 million VND to repair fish cages, with a total amount of 400 million VND.
Thuong Tan Commune, Bac Me District is also the only commune in the country that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor is in charge of, supporting, and accompanying in poverty reduction work, helping people develop the economy.
