Djokovic defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 Olympic men's tennis final with a score of 7-6, 7-6. He is the 5th player to complete the Golden Slam in his career, including 4 Grand Slam tournaments and an Olympic men's singles gold medal, after Serena Williams, Rafael Nadal, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf.
Even though he will be 41 years old by the time of the 2028 Olympics, Djokovic has not ruled out the possibility of competing again.
“I still want to play in Los Angeles,” he said. I love playing for my country Serbia at the Olympics and Davis Cup, being part of the team.”
Djokovic is not in the best form this season, but played an excellent match to defeat Carlos Alcaraz - a player who is only 21 years old this year. After the match, the Serbian tennis player emphasized that winning the Olympic gold medal was his greatest sports achievement.
He said: “The Olympics take place every four years so the opportunity to win a gold medal for the country is very rare. I know that I'm 37 years old and won't have many more opportunities.
So I have to accomplish that goal, focus on what needs to be done on the field. I'm really happy and excited to have done that, to overcome one of the strongest players in the world today.
What I felt in this moment of victory surpassed anything I thought or hoped for. I thought carrying the flag for Serbia at the opening ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics was the best feeling, until I experienced victory at the 2024 Olympics.
For me, being able to compete on the field, with the Serbian flag raised, singing the national anthem and a gold medal hanging around my neck is definitely the greatest sporting achievement I can have."
After the 2024 Paris Olympics, Djokovic will not participate in the Canadian Open Tennis Tournament this week. Instead, he will prepare for the 2024 US Open, which is one of the four Grand Slam tournaments of the year.
Here, Djokovic will have the opportunity to win his 25th Grand Slam, to continue to consolidate his position as the player with the most major titles of all time.
Even though he has won all the glory of tennis and is considered the GOAT (greatest tennis player of all time), Djokovic still has many desires.
He said: “It's true that my career was completed with an Olympic gold medal, but I don't play just to win, I play because I like competition, training and improving my level.
I don't know what the future will be like. With a long journey and many years of dreaming of holding a gold medal, now is the time for me to enjoy joy and happiness."
