The fact that grandmaster Le Quang Liem will not participate makes the coaching staff of the Vietnamese Chess Team have to recalculate the competition program for the 2026 Olympiad.

According to Lao Dong's investigation, chess grandmaster Le Quang Liem is entangled in his program, so he will not participate in the 2026 Olympiad tournament.

The coaching staff of the Vietnamese Chess Team is expected to register 2 men's and women's squads to participate in the 2026 World Team Olympiad in Uzbekistan in September.

However, 2 important grandmasters of Vietnamese chess, Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, preliminarily informed the Vietnam Chess Federation that they could not participate in the above tournament.

If the opportunity to compete for achievements is not predicted due to the absence of the main player, Vietnamese chess may be absent from the 2026 Olympiad. However, the official decision has not been made.

Olympiad always attracts top men's and women's chess teams in the world to participate. The competition program of the tournament takes place every 2 years.

At the 2024 Olympiad held in Hungary, we competed in the men's team with Le Quang Liem, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son, Le Tuan Minh, Tran Tuan Minh, Banh Gia Huy. The women's team that competed at that time included Pham Le Thao Nguyen, Vo Thi Kim Phung, Le Thanh Tu, Luong Phuong Hanh, Bach Ngoc Thuy Duong. At the 2024 Olympiad, the Vietnamese men's chess team ranked 25th while the Vietnamese women's chess team held 23rd.

Recently, grandmaster Le Quang Liem announced the end of his working time with the Webster University (USA) chess team.
