After the Tet holiday, the Vietnamese women's futsal team will soon return to training, aiming to defend the championship at the 2026 Southeast Asian Women's Futsal Championship. The tournament will take place from February 24 to March 2, 2026 in Thailand, right after the Lunar New Year holiday.
As the reigning regional champion, coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his team entered the tournament with high determination, although the preparation time was shortened due to the Tet holiday coinciding. The coaching staff has proactively adjusted the training plan, ensuring that the players maintain the best physical foundation and feeling for the ball before leaving.
According to the draw results, the Vietnamese women's futsal team is in Group B with Myanmar, Philippines and Australia. Meanwhile, Group A includes host Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. This is considered a highly competitive group when teams in the region have shown significant progress in recent years.
Sharing about the opponents, coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang said that Myanmar and the Philippines are teams that have faced Vietnam at the SEA Games and have made clear progress in expertise. In particular, Australia is considered a formidable unknown with a physical foundation and modern playing style, promising to create many challenges for the Vietnamese team in the group stage.
In 2024, the Vietnamese women's futsal team was crowned champion of the Southeast Asian women's futsal tournament after a victory over Thailand in the final. Next, in 2025, the team continued to affirm its number one position in the region when winning the gold medal at SEA Games 33 right in Thailand. These achievements create a foundation and great confidence for the whole team before the journey to defend the throne.
However, the coaching staff determined that each tournament is a new challenge. The opponents are all well prepared, and at the same time set a goal to compete directly with Vietnam and Thailand. Therefore, the Vietnamese women's futsal team needs to maintain concentration, tactical discipline and a cohesive fighting spirit.
