The Department of Culture and Sports of An Giang province said that the 2025 Bay Nui Beef Racing Festival organized by the Department of Culture and Sports in coordination with the Department of Culture, Radio and Television of An Giang, and the People's Committee of Tri Ton commune will take place on September 20, at the Ta Pa - Soai Chek Sports - Tourism Complex, Tri Ton commune.
The tournament brings together 64 pairs of cows from 10 communes and wards. Of which, there are 9 communes and wards in the Bay Nui region and 1 commune outside with traditional relations, including: Tri Ton, O Lam, Vinh Gia, Ba Chuc, Co To, An Cu, Nui Cam, Chi Lang, Tinh Bien (old An Giang province) and Giang Thanh (old Kien Giang province).
The teams compete in a knockout format. The winning pair of cows will continue to the next round. The organizing committee will award trophies, flags, gifts and cash to the winning cows, including: 1 First Prize, 1 Second Prize, 1 Third Prize, 1 Fourth Prize, 4 Encouragement Prizes and the Award for Outstanding Cows Controller.
Bay Nui cow racing is a traditional festival of the Khmer people on the occasion of Dolta festival - a festival to commemorate the contributions of grandparents and parents. This is one of the major holidays of the year for the Khmer people in the South in general, and the Bay Nui region in particular.
According to tradition, the Khmer people are very worshipful of the Buddha (Nam Tong), so on this occasion, people bring cows to the fields of pagodas to plow soil, preparing for the new crop as a way to bless their ancestors. Over time, this activity has become a unique cultural and sports festival unique to the Khmer people in the Bay Nui region.
With many special traditional competition rules, such as: each race has 2 pairs, starting in the first - second format... created opportunities for cattle drivers to create many technical and fast chases and chases on the field, creating gorgeous clusters of water flowers and beautiful, exciting and spectacular images. Therefore, going beyond the limits of a meaningful playground for the Khmer people, for many years, racing with Bay Nui cows has also attracted Kinh, Hoa people... inside and outside the province to enjoy and cheer.
