In 2020, USAPA changed its name to USA Pickleball, more consistent with other American sports governing organizations and the USA Pickleball National Championship. The brand relaunch also includes a new, modern logo and an updated website. The new name, logo and website are designed to strengthen USA Pickleball's image worldwide as the official pickleball organization in the United States.
Stu Upson joined USA Pickleball in December as its first full-time CEO.
In 2021, USA Pickleball membership topped 50,000 and ended the year with more than 53,000 members, a 43% increase over the previous year and the organization's largest single year of growth to date.
With more than 2,300 registered players, the 2021 Margaritaville USA Pickleball National Championship presented by Pickleball Central is the world's largest tournament to date.
USAP continued to reinvest in its personnel structure and ended the year with nearly 20 members. Media exposure also continued to drive awareness with several national segments on NBC's The Today Show, CNBC, BBC News, Live with Kelly and Ryan, and stories published in other publications. In 2022, the Sports & Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) named pickleball the fastest growing sport in America for the second year in a row in its annual Topline Participation Report 2022.
The 2022 Pickleball USA Margaritaville National Championship attracted nearly 2,300 registered players, with professional players competing for a $150,000 prize pool.
The Indian Wells Tennis Garden venue hosted 5,522 fans at the peak of Championship Sunday, the largest pickleball attendance ever in history.
Also in 2022, "pickleball" is one of the hottest trends in the US, with unprecedented coverage in major domestic and international media.
In 2023, USA Pickleball's membership reached the 70,000 mark in February, following membership growth of nearly 30% in 2022.
In the 2023 Topline Participation Report, the Sports and Fitness Industry Association (SFIA) named pickleball the fastest growing sport in America for the third consecutive year. According to the report, pickleball has a total of 8.9 million players in the US over the age of 6, up from 4.8 million in 2022.
Today, pickleball is exploding in popularity, spreading worldwide with many new international clubs being founded and national governing bodies now established on multiple continents.
