The construction plan for the Ring Road 2 - Pham Van Dong intersection has been approved by Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Architecture was assigned to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to organize an architectural competition.
The tender process must be completed by November, in order to find the optimal solution for this important intersection.
Pham Van Dong - Ring Road 2 intersection will have a 4-storey design.
The underpass will have a left turn with 2 lanes from Pham Van Dong Street, following the direction of Tan Son Nhat Airport to National Highway 1 and Go Dua Bridge.
Level 1 includes two overpasses: Overpass No. 1 with 6 lanes on Ring Road 2 passes through Linh Dong, Pham Van Dong, Kha Van Can and Rach Ngang streets. Overpass No. 2 has a right turn with 2 lanes from Ring Road 2 to Pham Van Dong, towards Tan Son Nhat airport.
The second floor will have a four-lane overpass for two-way traffic on Pham Van Dong Street, which will be implemented in a later phase.
The ground level will be organized to accommodate traffic on the upper floors.
This intersection is part of the Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 construction project - the section from Vo Nguyen Giap Street to Pham Van Dong Street (Thu Duc City) with a total length of 2.4 km. The project was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council for investment in 2023.
To implement the project, Thu Duc City plans to reclaim 13.4 hectares of land, affecting 258 cases, including 253 households and 5 organizations.
In 2024, Ho Chi Minh City will allocate 1,742 billion VND from public investment capital to serve site clearance work.
In addition, the Ring Road 2 section from Phu Huu Bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap Street (3.5 km long) is also being implemented, including the Binh Thai intersection. This project will reclaim 47.6 hectares of land, affecting 893 cases (872 households and 21 organizations), with a land clearance capital of VND 5,825.7 billion.
Both sections of Ring Road 2 will be cleared with a cross-section of 67m wide. The parallel roads on both sides will have a scale of 6 lanes (each side is 17m wide, corresponding to 3 lanes). The vacant land in the middle of the road will be reserved for future expansion.
According to the plan, these two sections of Ring Road 2 will start construction in the second quarter of 2025 and be completed in 2027.
