LIV Golf cancels year-end event with $40 million prize money

LIV Golf's professional tournament system continues to falter as the season's last event has to be cancelled.

After weeks of speculation, LIV Golf has officially announced to golfers that the Michigan season-end event has been cancelled. However, it seems that this information has not yet been forwarded to the ticket sales department.

Information from the end of July has implied that the LIV Golf Michigan Team Championship - scheduled to take place from August 27 to 30 - is at risk of being canceled, stripping the opportunity to compete for the $40 million prize of 13 teams participating in this tournament.

According to The Telegraph, this decision has now been officialized as golfers are informed that the event will not take place.

Although there has been no full official announcement, the newspaper said that Fox has removed the tournament from its broadcast list and no infrastructure has been built at the golf course planned to host the event: The Cardinal at Saint John's.

This means that the LIV Golf Indiana tournament next week will be the last event of the 2026 season for LIV Golf, after the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced that it will not continue to sponsor this organization when this season ends.

Although the information has been sent to golfers, emails from LIV Golf continue to advertise ticket sales for the event in Michigan.

Journalist James Corrigan of The Telegraph published screenshots of the above advertising email with the title: "Buy tickets to see Aramco LIV Golf Michigan Team Championship 2026 – Hurry before tickets run out! ".

Comments below Corrigan's post said that LIV Golf no longer displays the Michigan event on their schedule, however, users can still buy tickets if they click on the link sent via email.

This is another event canceled after PIF withdrew. Previously in June, the LIV Golf Louisiana tournament was also canceled.

The event takes place in the context that the future of this separatist organization continues to be covered by uncertainty.

Scott O'Neil, CEO of LIV, revealed last week that he has found an investor to sponsor the league's activities in 2027.

However, the identity of this investor has not been officially announced and it seems that no agreement has been signed.

Many sources say that the deals depend on keeping golf stars like Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm in the squad.

It is not clear how the team ranking will be decided at the event in Indiana, as golfers shared that they are still "completely vague" about how to determine the winning team as well as how the team prize money of 40 million USD will be allocated.
