On the evening of August 4, the Myanmar team won a resounding 7-2 victory over Laos in the Group B match of ASEAN Cup 2026. The exciting score chase and two direct red cards made the match one of the most dramatic matches in the tournament since the beginning of the season.
With the determination to win all 3 points to nurture hopes of going further, Myanmar entered the game proactively and had the opening goal in the 2nd minute. Lwin Moe Aung broke the offside trap before finishing neatly to defeat the Lao goalkeeper.
However, Laos showed a resilient fighting spirit. In the 17th minute, Chernvanglien skillfully handled in the penalty area to bring the match back to the starting line. Just a few minutes later, Win Naing Tun helped Myanmar re-establish the advantage with an accurate finish.
The double-attack scenario continued to be maintained when Sangvilay scored a beautiful goal from a narrow angle in the 23rd minute, equalizing the score 2-2. However, before the first half ended, Myanmar made good use of opportunities to create a gap. Win Naing Tun completed a double in the 41st minute before Maung Maung Lwin successfully converted a penalty in injury time, putting Myanmar ahead 4-2 after the first 45 minutes.
Stepping into the second half, Myanmar continued to maintain pressure and scored their fifth goal in the 53rd minute by Than Paing after an assist from Lwin Moe Aung.
A notable turning point occurred in the 68th minute when players of the two teams clashed. After consulting VAR, the referee issued a direct red card to Maung Maung Lwin of Myanmar and Sayfon of Laos for a foul play.
Although only playing with 10 men, Myanmar still controlled the game and scored two more goals in the final minutes. Hein Htet Aung increased the score to 6-2 in the 81st minute before Win Naing Tun completed a hat-trick in the 83rd minute, sealing a 7-2 victory for Myanmar.
The big victory helps Myanmar continue to chase the leading group in Group B and maintain hope of winning a ticket to the semi-finals of ASEAN Cup 2026, while Laos still cannot get points after the first matches.
