Compete alone with high frequency
2024 is a busy year for badminton player Nguyen Thuy Linh. In addition to accumulating points towards the 2024 Paris Olympics (taking place in July 2024), Thuy Linh's highest goal is to compete for the best results to accumulate more points towards entering the top 20 players of the International Badminton Federation (BWF).
According to statistics, since the beginning of the year, Vietnam's number 1 female tennis player has participated in 16 international tournaments, including 3 highest level Super 1,000 tournaments in England (March), Indonesia (June) and China (September); 3 Super 750 level tournaments in India (January), France (March), Singapore (May).
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Thuy Linh did not compete as expected when she stopped in the group stage, missing the opportunity to enter the round of 16.
Most recently, in the October European tour, the female athlete from Phu Tho reached the second round of the super 750 Denmark Open, then stopped in the quarterfinals of the German Open.
From the above tournament data, it can be seen that 2024 has not ended yet, but on average, Thuy Linh participates in at least 1 international tournament every month.
With a continuous competition frequency, Thuy Linh is the Vietnamese tennis player who has participated in the most international tournaments (up to now) in 2024. She is also the highest-ranked female athlete of Vietnamese badminton, ranked 31st in the world.
Notably, despite competing internationally continuously, Vietnam's number 1 tennis player only participates in tournaments alone without the guidance of a coach.
Health speaks out
Traveling a lot and competing continuously to ensure both results and advancement in the BWF rankings has caused Thuy Linh's physical strength to decline. Immediately after stopping in the quarterfinals of the 2024 German Open, she shared that she had multiple injuries and wanted to withdraw from international tournaments from now until the end of 2024.
Thuy Linh shared on her personal page: "This year is a busy year, I started competing to continue to accumulate points for the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifiers from February. Now it's November, my physical condition is starting to show signs of overload and my mind is also exhausted.
Now maintaining my ranking and competing internationally is no longer important because the 2024 Paris Olympics have come to an end. I want to take time to recover, treat my injuries, completely treat any lingering and serious injuries that have arisen, and recover both physically and mentally."
This tennis player also said that competing alone abroad is not easy for her.
Currently, Thuy Linh is in Korea because according to the schedule, she will participate in the 2024 Korean Masters (opening on November 5). It is known that Thuy Linh has worked with the coaching staff of the Vietnamese badminton team to review her physical condition.
However, the organizers still have Thuy Linh's match schedule. She will play her opening match against Yan Yan Cai (China) at 2:40 p.m. on November 6 (Vietnam time).
Nguyen Thuy Linh is a highly regarded tennis player, and has always shown a spirit of progress. However, to ensure her fitness for future tournaments, this athlete and the Vietnamese badminton community need to make careful calculations to help her have a suitable break, and at the same time have the best physical condition for the 33rd SEA Games.
