Olympic is the world's largest sporting event, with very high competition. Therefore, some countries and territories offer significant incentives to athletes who win gold medals at the Olympics.
Singapore offers generous rewards for Olympic gold medalists. For a long time, the government has established a major incentive policy for sports talents, with those bringing glory at the Olympics receiving 1 million SGD (over 740,000 USD).
Other countries that offer large rewards for athletes winning gold medals at the 2024 Olympics include Israel (275,000 USD), Serbia (218,000 USD), Morocco (200,000 USD), Italy (196,000 USD), Lithuania (182,000 USD)…
In some other countries, besides the Olympic prize money, medal-winning athletes also receive other incentives. For instance, in Malaysia, gold medalists are rewarded with 200,000 USD and a luxury imported car. Athletes who win medals at the Olympics also receive a lifetime salary, ranging from 400 USD to 1,100 USD per month.
Other countries with monthly incentives like Malaysia include Kosovo, Lithuania, and Chile. Meanwhile, New Zealand structures its payments as annual bonuses, with gold medalists receiving 40,000 USD each year until the next Olympics.
Meanwhile, Poland offers a range of benefits in addition to the approximately 82,000 USD that gold medalists at the Olympic Paris 2024 receive. Each medalist in Paris will receive a painting from Polish artists, a diamond, and a vacation voucher for two from a travel company.
Coaches also enjoy similar rewards.
Additionally, to commemorate 100 years of Poland's participation in the Olympics, individual sports gold medalists will receive a two-bedroom apartment in the Warsaw metropolitan area (expected to be handed over in 2025 or 2026), while athletes who secure first place in a team sport will be granted a one-bedroom apartment.
