The advantage of the business football team
Volleyball teams in Vietnam are being formed in 2 forms. One is teams belonging to state units (managed by Departments of Culture, Sports; Departments of Culture, Sports, Tourism of localities). The other case is teams built, invested and managed by businesses.
The Vietnam National Volleyball Championship currently has teams managed by businesses such as Duc Giang Chemicals or Vietinbank. Previously, experts had witnessed business teams making their mark at the National Volleyball Championship such as: Vietnam Oil and Gas Group men's team, Duc Long Gia Lai or Seprodex.
The emergence of football teams managed and invested by businesses has brought new signals for national volleyball, which is better professional quality, the remuneration regime of business football teams will be better and not too dependent on the allocated funds. Businesses are financially autonomous, they will be autonomous in investing in their own teams," volleyball expert Tran Van Thu once shared.
In their formation and development, Vietinbank women's team once won the national championship (in 2016). Duc Giang Chemicals Team has reached the national championship final 5 times in a row (from 2020 to 2024).
Before being dissolved, the Duc Long Gia Lai men's team was the national champion in 2013 and attracted top Vietnamese stars to participate. Meanwhile, before being dissolved, the Seaprodex men's team was a force that achieved achievements for Southern volleyball.
A very clear reality is that Vietnamese volleyball has implemented the Athlete Transfer Regulation since 2010. Therefore, teams accept to follow the player transfer game. Business teams with potential will have enough opportunities to transfer athletes to earn achievements for themselves. In the opposite direction, teams managed by state units must actively find socialized sources of sponsorship as well as improve the regime for players to retain their personnel.
Dependence on investment resources
The volleyball team managed by businesses clearly brings optimistic signals in terms of expertise. However, they operate like businesses and will fluctuate according to the resources put in by the business owner (or can be called the boss).
The Duc Long Gia Lai men's team had its golden age to reach the peak of achievements at the National Championship. However, after 7 years of existence, the team was wiped out when boss Bui Phap was no longer interested in investing. In 2016, when businessman Bui Phap announced the dissolution of the Duc Long Gia Lai men's team, many players struggled to find new competition venues to their own surprise.
A strong team lies not only in investment resources but also in stability and sustainability in management. All businesses investing to create their own teams, finding opportunities and participating in the National Championship in Vietnam bring positive aspects.
However, if businesses cannot maintain sustainable funding, it is also very difficult to say anything," a coach of the 2026 National Club Volleyball Championship (who asked to remain anonymous) expressed.
