Two billiards players Tran Quyet Chien and Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu helped the Vietnamese billiards team reach the semi-finals of the 2026 World 3-Bang Carom Team Championship to compete against Sweden on March 1.
Previously, late on the evening of February 28, the players of the national teams played in the quarter-finals of the tournament taking place in the city of Viersen (Germany).
The Vietnamese billiards team played against the Turkish team in their quarterfinal bracket. Tran Quyet Chien was the opener to compete against Tayfun Tasdemir. After 15 turns, the Vietnamese player defeated Tayfun Tasdemir with a score of 40-34. In the remaining match, Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu surpassed player Berkay Karakurt 40-37, after 25 turns of competition.
In the end, the Vietnamese team won 2-0 to enter the semi-finals. We will meet the Swedish billiards team in the semi-finals taking place on March 1 (local time).
Swedish players defeated the US team in the quarterfinals, winning the right to enter the semi-finals.
The remaining semi-final will be a match between host Germany and Colombia. The 2026 World 3D Carambol Championship gathers top world teams to participate. The qualifying round of the tournament has started from February 26th. According to the competition program, March 1st will be the last day of the tournament.
This is the 3rd consecutive time the Vietnamese billiards team has reached the semi-finals of this tournament. In 2024, we defeated the Spanish team to win the championship. Last year, the Vietnamese billiards team lost to the Netherlands team in the final. In 2024 and 2025, the Vietnamese billiards team is played by Tran Quyet Chien and Bao Phuong Vinh.
