Pre-match Information
Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team and Thailand will face each other in the final match of the first leg of SEA V.League 2024, taking place at 19:00 on August 4.
This is the decisive match for the championship, as both teams have 6 points after the first two matches.
Previously, the Thailand women's volleyball team defeated Indonesia and the Philippines with the same score of 3-0. Meanwhile, the Vietnam women's volleyball team overcame the Philippines 3-1 and defeated Indonesia 3-0.
Currently, Thailand is temporarily leading the standings and Vietnam is in second place, as the Golden Temple team has a better secondary index (total sets won - lost). However, this will no longer matter as the two teams will determine the winner in the final match.
In terms of strength and expertise, the visiting team is rated higher than Vietnam. Coach Nataphon Srisamutnak's squad has approached the Olympic arena and regularly participates in major international tournaments recently.
Thailand's lineup is of high caliber and quite balanced. They can alternately change positions but still ensure strength on the court. Some high-performing stars include Nuekjang Thatdao, Chatchu-on, Sasipapron, Thanacha, Pornpun...
On the other side, the Vietnam women's volleyball team has also achieved many successes in 2024, notably winning the second consecutive championship at the AVC Challenge Cup and for the first time securing 3rd place at the FIVB Challenger Cup.
Coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt's students have shown significant progress when competing in many tournaments. But overall, the Vietnam women's team still cannot play on equal terms with Thailand.
At the SEA Games arena, from 2001 to now, the two teams have met 11 times in the finals and the Thailand women's team has won all to claim the gold medal.
Evaluating the opponent, coach Nguyễn Tuấn Kiệt said: "Thailand came to this year's SEA V.League well-prepared. After competing in international tournaments, their athletes had time to focus on physical fitness, expertise, and quick integration.
For Vietnam, although we have a strong lineup, the athletes have not reached their best form. Hopefully, the whole team will have better preparation in terms of spirit and physical fitness.
SEA V.League only has 3 matches, so physical fitness is not a major concern, the important thing is to boost morale and maintain high concentration. Looking at Thailand, their setters are so proficient, they can find each other with their eyes closed. Therefore, if we are not well-prepared, especially in defense, it will be very difficult to have a good match against Thailand".
