Force rehearsal
The Vietnamese national team entered a friendly match with the Bangladesh national team in the context that the international competition time is not much recently. From the end of 2025 to now, the team has only had 1 match in the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers against Laos with a 2-0 victory, thereby completing the goal of participating in the finals after the group stage situation changed.
Under the guidance of coach Kim Sang-sik, the Vietnamese national team is calling up a list combining experienced players, some young factors and even faces who have been absent for a long time due to injuries. The match against Bangladesh is therefore considered a comprehensive test of physical condition, tactical operation ability as well as the adaptability of the players. Dinh Trong or Van Hau also need more time to regain their rhythm of competition in the national team, while some young players such as Nhat Minh, Trung Kien or Khuat Van Khang may be given opportunities to compete for positions.
Team assessment does not only stop at each individual, but also lies in how to build a stable framework. The coaching staff aims to identify personnel options for the next matches, especially the confrontation with Malaysia. Therefore, the friendly match with Bangladesh plays the role of a comprehensive test, from the defense system to efficiency in attacking situations.
The Bangladesh team also entered the match with a similar goal. This team has not had many international matches recently and is in the process of completing the squad for the final round of the Asian Cup qualifiers. Results are not a top priority, instead, it is the test of cohesion and the assessment of the ability of each position.
Vietnam team aims for positive results
In terms of force balance, the Vietnamese national team is highly appreciated for its playing experience and squad quality. In the FIFA rankings, the gap between the two teams is quite large (103 compared to 181), reflecting differences in level as well as level of competition in regional and continental tournaments. In addition, the home field advantage helps the Vietnamese national team have more conditions to control the game.
Under coach Kim Sang-sik, the Vietnamese national team shaped a controlling and tightly organized playing style. The way the ball is deployed from the lower line, the ability to maintain formation distance and quickly switch states are key factors. The match against Bangladesh is an opportunity to test the effectiveness of this system when facing an opponent who tends to play defensively and wait for counter-attack opportunities.
Bangladesh has some notable points, especially the appearance of Hamza Choudhury - a player currently playing for Leicester City. However, overall, this team still has many limitations in organizing defense and maintaining stability throughout the match.
Head-to-head history also leans towards Vietnam as they have never suffered a defeat against Bangladesh. In the past, in the 2002 World Cup qualifiers, the Vietnamese national team once won against an opponent with a large margin. Although head-to-head data is not much, these results partly reflect the difference in professional quality.
Bangladesh is likely to choose a cautious approach, prioritizing keeping formation distance and limiting errors. Therefore, the Vietnamese team needs to take advantage of the opportunity to put pressure, attack more and pay attention to the level of efficiency in finishing.
Although only of a friendly nature, this confrontation still has professional value. This is the basis for the coaching staff to improve the squad, and at the same time provide data for tactical adjustments in the next phase.
The match between Vietnam National Team and Bangladesh National Team takes place at 7:00 PM on March 26 at Hang Day Stadium.
