In the final match held on the evening of April 24, U17 Vietnam won 3-0 against U17 Malaysia, thereby convincingly winning the championship. This is also the final match with the largest gap in the past 11 years at the regional tournament for the U17 age group.
With this title, U17 Vietnam won the U17 Southeast Asian Championship for the 4th time, becoming the most successful team in the history of the tournament, surpassing direct competitors such as Australia and Thailand.
The championship also marks a memorable milestone for coach Cristiano Roland. This is the first international title of the Brazilian strategist with the Vietnamese youth teams. Previously, Mr. Roland and U17 Hanoi won the National U17 Championship in two consecutive seasons 2024 and 2025.
Not only convincingly crowned, U17 Vietnam also maintained a stable performance series in the past time. According to statistics, the team is having 16 consecutive unbeaten matches. If calculated more broadly in the two generations of players born in 2008 and 2009 led by Mr. Roland, Vietnamese youth teams achieved a record of 15 wins, 7 draws and only lost 2 matches, scoring 66 goals and conceding 14 goals.
In addition to the team title, the U17 Vietnam players also won two important individual awards at this year's tournament. In which, Chu Ngoc Nguyen Luc was awarded the title of Best Player of the Tournament, and Ly Xuan Hoa received the Best Goalkeeper award.
After achievements in the regional arena, VFF leaders praised the fighting spirit and efforts of the whole team, and rewarded a total of 1.1 billion VND to encourage the coaching staff and players. This is considered timely encouragement before the team enters the next task at the 2026 AFC U17 Championship finals, expected to start in early May.
The achievements at the 2026 U17 Southeast Asian Championship continue to show positive signs of Vietnamese youth football in the roadmap to prepare successor forces for national teams in the future.
