According to Reuters news agency, athlete Sajjad Sehen (Judo ) - from the Iraqi Sports Team - tested positive for two banned substances. The male boxer was officially eliminated from the 2024 Olympics without competing for a single minute.
Previously, on July 23, Sehen had a sample taken and the official results were available after 3 days (July 26). According to the announcement of the international doping monitoring agency (ITA), the Iraqi male boxer tested positive for metandienone and boldenone, which are both banned in top sports.
These are two substances that help improve physical health, promote exercise performance and increase protein assimilation.
Sehen's immediate punishment is not being allowed to compete in Judo for the men's 81kg weight class on July 30. In the near future, this athlete will definitely receive an additional official penalty from the International Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
In addition to Sajjad Sehen, another athlete who cannot compete at this year's Olympics is Florentina Iusco (athletics) - part of the Romanian Sports Delegation. This female athlete actually tested positive for doping in April 2023, before the start of the 2024 Olympics, but there was no specific punishment.
Initially, Iusco was not sanctioned by the Romanian Athletics Federation because she thought she only accidentally encountered the banned substance furosemide (a diuretic) on WADA's banned list. However, WADA did not accept this reason and sued the international sports court (CAS).
CAS then ruled that Florentina Iusco was at fault in testing positive for a banned substance and was banned from competing for 2 years from April 2023. Therefore, Iusco cannot attend the 2024 Olympics.
Regarding the Vietnamese Sports Delegation, boxer Vo Thi Kim Anh was tested on July 22 and was found to be eligible to compete in the 2024 Olympics.
