On September 19, Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee held the opening ceremony of the 1st Vinh Long Provincial Sports Festival in 2026 at the multi-purpose gymnasium.
The event gathered 33 delegations of athletes competing in 26 sports, representing departments, branches, universities and 26 commune and ward clusters in the province.
Speaking at the opening of the Congress, Ms. Nguyen Thi Be Muoi - Provincial Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Congress Organizing Committee - emphasized the importance of physical training.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Be Muoi affirmed that the mass sports movement is a solid foundation for developing high-performance sports, contributing to promoting the local image and improving people's lives.
Previously, grassroots-level congresses in 124 communes, wards and agencies and units attracted more than 64,480 participants, creating a lively and widespread competitive atmosphere.
This congress is of special significance, marking a new step in the province's development after the merger process, gathering cultural and sports essence from Vinh Long, Ben Tre, and Tra Vinh regions.
The Organizing Committee has arranged flexible competition venues in all three areas to create the most favorable conditions for mass athletes to exchange, compete and contribute.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested the refereeing force to work fairly and objectively, and at the same time called on athletes to compete wholeheartedly in the spirit of solidarity, honesty and nobility.
The first Vinh Long Provincial Sports Festival in 2026 is expected to be an important basis for selecting outstanding talents and fostering them for national and international tournaments.
