At 6:08 PM on April 17, WTI oil price was at 91.15 USD/barrel, down 3.54 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 3.74%. Brent oil was at 96.25 USD/barrel, down 3.14 USD/barrel, equivalent to a decrease of 3.16%.
In Friday's trading session, world oil prices tended to decrease thanks to optimistic sentiment that the conflict in the Middle East may be about to cool down, after the 10-day ceasefire agreement between Lebanon and Israel officially took effect. In addition, President Donald Trump said that the US and Iran could hold talks later this week.
The world gasoline and oil market in this operating period is influenced by key factors such as: the US deploying measures to blockade the Strait of Hormuz; expectations for further negotiations between the US and Iran to end the conflict; military conflict between Russia and Ukraine still taking place... The above factors have caused world finished gasoline and oil prices in recent days to increase and decrease depending on each item.
The selling prices of popular consumer gasoline and oil items on the market on April 17, 2026 are as follows:
- E5RON92 gasoline: not higher than 22,592 VND/liter (an increase of 248 VND/liter compared to the current maximum selling price), lower than RON95-III gasoline by 1,669 VND/liter;
- RON95-III gasoline: not higher than 23,761 VND/liter (an increase of 218 VND/liter compared to the current maximum selling price);
- Diesel oil 0.05S: not higher than 31,041 VND/liter (down 1,928 VND/liter compared to the current maximum selling price);
- 180CST 3.5S mazut oil: not higher than 20,332 VND/kg (down 2,281 VND/kg compared to the current maximum selling price).
According to Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, two domestic oil refineries, Dung Quat and Nghi Son, ensure sufficient raw materials for production until the end of April. In March, key traders also imported 3.2 million m3 of gasoline and oil. Along with current inventories (2.6-2.8 million m3), domestic gasoline and oil supply can ensure production and consumption by the end of this month.
Currently, Vietnam does not have a separate national gasoline and oil reserve. The reserves are being stored at the warehouses of large gasoline and oil trading enterprises through contracts, paying fees according to norms with units. This reserve level is only about 7-10 days of consumption.
Recently, the Government has assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to soon work with foreign partners to immediately deploy the construction of a strategic petroleum reserve in Nghi Son (Thanh Hoa).
Comparison of gasoline and oil selling prices of neighboring countries of Vietnam on April 16, 2026:
- Regarding gasoline prices: Thailand: 35,371 VND/liter (Government subsidies); Cambodia: 33,742 VND/liter (Government subsidies); Laos: 47,975 VND/liter; China: 36,200 VND/liter (Government price control); Vietnam: 23,761/liter.
- About oil price: Thailand: 36,564 VND/liter (Government subsidized); Cambodia: 42,178 VND/liter; Laos: 59,573 VND/liter; China: 33,070 VND/liter (Government controls price); Vietnam: 31,041 VND/liter.
Thus, Vietnam's gasoline and oil prices are currently at an average level and lower than countries sharing a common border.
