At the end of the weekend trading session, WTI crude oil prices were at 56.52 USD/barrel, up 0.52 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 0.93%. WTI oil closed the previous trading session at 56 USD/barrel and opened the weekend session at 55.90 USD/barrel.
Brent oil was at 60.47 USD/barrel, up 0.65 USD/barrel, equivalent to an increase of 1.09%. Brent oil closed the previous trading session at 69.82 USD/barrel and opened the weekend session at 59.72 USD/barrel.
Oil prices surged as investors feared the risk of supply being affected by US blockades targeting Venezuela's oil tanker fleet. Meanwhile, the market is closely monitoring new signals related to the possibility of reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the world petroleum market last week (from December 11, 2025 to December 17, 2025) was affected by main factors such as: advances in peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine promoted by the US that could lead to increased oil supply from Russia; US crude oil inventories decreased but gasoline and distillate inventories increased beyond forecasts; tensions in relations between the US and Venezuela; the military conflict between Russia and Ukaina continues...
The above factors have caused world oil prices in recent days to increase and decrease depending on each commodity, but the downward trend is mainly the downward trend.
For the domestic market, a representative of a petroleum business said that it will fluctuate according to the world petroleum situation. According to current market developments, it is forecasted that in the next price adjustment period, retail prices of gasoline may continue to decrease. If it is as forecast, this will be the third consecutive week that domestic gasoline prices have decreased simultaneously.
In the adjustment session last week (December 18), gasoline prices decreased simultaneously compared to the price adjustment period last week. Of which, E5 RON 92 gasoline is priced at VND 19,239/liter (down VND 376/liter). RON 95-III gasoline is priced at VND19,620/liter (down VND462/liter).
Prices of oil products also decreased simultaneously. Diesel 0.05S is priced at VND17,476/liter (down VND678/liter); kerosene has a new price of VND17,937/liter (down VND704/liter); mazut 180CST 3.5S is priced at VND13,160/kg (down VND233/kg).
