As of 11:30 a.m. today (January 15), the domestic coffee market continued to decrease in price, averaging a decrease of VND800/kg per session. Currently, the purchase price fluctuates between VND114,000 - VND114,500/kg. The average coffee purchase price in the Central Highlands provinces today reached VND114,500/kg.
Lam Dong is still the province with the lowest coffee purchasing price in the Central Highlands, about 500 VND/kg higher than the average price. Compared to the sharp decrease in the previous trading session, coffee prices in this region continued to decrease by 700 VND/kg, currently trading at 114,000 VND/kg.
In Gia Lai, the coffee purchase price today reached 114,400 VND/kg, down 800 VND/kg compared to the previous session.
Notably, Dak Lak rose to the top of the provinces and cities with the highest coffee purchasing prices, along with Dak Nong, at VND114,500/kg. However, prices in these two localities also dropped sharply, down VND700/kg and VND1,000/kg, respectively.
On the London and New York exchanges, the coffee market moved in the same direction across all terms. On the London Robusta Coffee Exchange, coffee prices continued to decline, moving further away from the peak of $5,000/ton. The contract for delivery in March 2025 fell nearly 1% (equivalent to $39/ton), to its lowest level since the first week of December 2024 at $4,863/ton. The contract for delivery in May 2025 plunged 0.62% (equivalent to $30/ton), anchoring at $4,796/ton.
Similarly, the New York Arabica coffee market recorded a large fluctuation after a series of alternating increases and decreases. The delivery period in March 2025 and May 2025 both decreased by more than 1%, reaching the market at 321.95 cents/lb and 318.00 cents/lb.
Recently, according to the announcement of the General Department of Vietnam Customs, in December 2024, Vietnam's total coffee export volume reached 127,655 tons, a sharp increase of 102.6%; the total export value also increased by more than 95%, equivalent to over 686.5 million USD. This information has contributed to putting pressure on Robusta coffee prices since the end of last week.
According to experts, the main reason is the increased supply from Brazil and the conversion of crops in Vietnam, especially in Dak Lak when the coffee area is replaced by durian trees with higher economic value.
Although Robusta prices fell, Arabica coffee prices hit a three-week high due to dry weather in Brazil, which affected Arabica supplies.
