Vegetable prices nearly doubled

According to Lao Dong Newspaper's reporter on September 11, at some traditional markets in Cau Giay, My Dinh, Nam Tu Liem (Hanoi), the prices of meat and fish did not fluctuate much. However, the prices of green vegetables tended to increase.

For example, at Me Tri Thuong market, the price of sweet cabbage increased from 20,000 VND/kg to 25,000 VND/kg; amaranth increased by 2,000 VND to 17,000 VND/bunch; cabbage increased by 5,000 VND to 20,000-25,000 VND/head; tomatoes 35,000 VND/kg, water spinach increased from 8,000-10,000 VND to 20,000-25,000 VND/bunch...

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, a trader at Me Tri Thuong market (Nam Tu Liem, Hanoi), the price of green vegetables increased slightly in the days before the storm due to people's hoarding tendency. After the storm, the supply was difficult, so the price of green vegetables continued to increase.

"After the storm, heavy rain caused flooding in many areas. The impact of the storm, combined with heavy rain, damaged vegetables in many gardens, making transportation and import of goods difficult. In the next few days, the price of imported vegetables at wholesale markets will increase because many gardens have lost their crops. This will make it difficult for small traders like me to reduce the cost of selling at the market because we will lose capital," said Ms. Lien.

Prices at supermarkets are stable.

Speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Deputy General Director of WinMart Chain said - after the storm, people often have a high demand for fresh food such as vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, drinks, and other essential consumer goods. Therefore, the WinMart supermarket system and WinMart+/WiN stores have carefully prepared to ensure adequate supply of goods, meeting customers' shopping needs after the storm.

For example, for food items such as leafy vegetables, we quickly coordinated additional supplies from WinEco farm, along with suppliers from Lam Dong and the southern provinces to our supermarkets and stores in Hanoi and the provinces affected by the recent storm, to ensure that we could meet customer demand.

"Currently, fresh food items such as meat, fish, vegetables, and essential products such as rice, noodles, etc. are still fully supplied at stable prices, with no price increases," Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung affirmed.

Recently, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien issued an official dispatch on increasing inspection and market supervision in the aftermath of storm No. 3.

The telegram was issued to control the market, strictly handle violations, and resolutely prevent hoarding and unreasonable price increases, especially for food, foodstuffs, and essential goods to serve the consumption needs of people and businesses in the period after the storm.
