Central Highlands agricultural products affirm their position in the international market

THANH QUỲNH |

Dak Lak and Dak Nong agricultural exports will make great strides in 2024, with a turnover of billions of dollars and a shift to deep processing, affirming their position in the international market.

Export turnover billion dollars

The two provinces of Dak Lak and Dak Nong have large natural areas, fertile red basalt soil, tropical monsoon climate, favorable for growing agricultural crops with high economic value. Exported products have entered many demanding markets in the world such as the US, EU, Japan, etc.

In 2024, Dak Nong province will make a special mark when export turnover is estimated at 1.045 billion USD, an increase of 18.6% compared to 2023, of which coffee accounts for about 28% of the province's total export turnover.

Dak Nong's coffee export markets are mainly Singapore, the US, Germany, Japan, Australia, Spain, Korea, Italy, etc. Of which, Singapore is the largest market, accounting for over 60% of the province's coffee export value.

Along with coffee, Dak Nong's black pepper also accounts for a large proportion of the province's export turnover. The export turnover of this item reached 90 million USD, an increase of 48.8% over the same period last year. Currently, black pepper is exported to major markets such as: Singapore, Africa, China, Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand.

In Dak Lak, the export picture is also bright. In 2024, the province's export turnover will reach more than 1.8 billion USD, an increase of nearly 24% compared to 2023.

To date, the locality’s processed agricultural products have reached more than 70 countries and territories around the world. It is worth noting that the province’s export items are shifting towards deep processing. For example, at the end of 2024, the Miss Ede brand successfully exported 18,000 packages of roasted and ground coffee packaged in Vietnam to the US market.

Enhance product value

Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Dak Nong province, Nguyen Ba Ut, said that in the upcoming export structure of the province, priority will be given to increasing the proportion of goods with deep processing and high technology. The group of processed agricultural and forestry products will improve productivity, quality, added value, expand the market and brand of export goods.

In addition to maintaining and expanding export market share in traditional markets, Dak Nong will approach large export markets with much room for growth in Asia, Africa, Northern Europe, Eastern Europe and Latin America. The province also promotes a rapid and strong shift to official trade of agricultural products such as pepper, coffee, cashew nuts, etc.

Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak province Nguyen Hoai Duong said that the agricultural sector is focusing on restructuring the agricultural sector. Accordingly, the locality has shifted from small-scale, fragmented production to reorganizing concentrated production areas in the direction of forming cooperatives and organizing farmers' associations. From there, there is unification and control, production support... to meet technical requirements as well as product output. Especially with the support of associated enterprises in terms of capital, consumption of products ensures stability and sustainability.

In addition to calling for investment in production, trade promotion, market expansion, and finding outlets for agricultural products are also of special interest and promoted by Dak Lak Departments and branches at all levels.

“The year-end agricultural export shipments in Dak Lak have contributed to creating new momentum for the new year,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Nhiem, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Dak Lak province.

In the coming time, the Industry and Trade Department of Dak Lak province will continue to proactively seek and expand export markets. In particular, the industry will make good use of mechanisms and policies, especially from free trade agreements that Vietnam has signed to boost exports.
