Xinhua News Agency reported that the second black box of the crashed Boeing 737-800 of China Eastern Airlines was found on the morning of March 27. The two black boxes are said to provide some clues that could explain the tragic Chinese plane crash on March 21.
CCTV said the black box was found 1.5 meters below the soil layer at the crash site.
The first black box was found at the site of the accident in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, southern China on the night of March 23, a few days after the accident. However, Chinese officials said they could not rule out the possibility of the black box being severely damaged.
The first black box was moved to a laboratory in Beijing to analyze data.
According to the design of the Boeing B737-800, both black boxes are mounted on the rear of the aircraft. The cockpit recorder is located in the cargo compartment behind and the flight data recorder is located above the ceiling at the end of the aircraft.
Huang Jun, a professor at the School of Aerospace Science and Technology at Beihang University of Aerospace, told the Times that the two black boxes are important in finding the cause of the air accident and that the data of the two black boxes can confirm and complement each other.
In a statement late on March 26, Chinese officials said that all 132 people, including 123 passengers and 9 crew members on flight MU5735 that crashed on March 21 in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, South China, had been confirmed dead.
Following the request of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Administration and the Chinese cabinet, the State Emergency Response Team has worked closely with the Fire Department, the People's Liberation Army, the People's Armed Forces and police agencies to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the scene of the plane crash for six consecutive days.
By studying and testing data from a series of devices such as radar, imaging surveillance and especially investigation and analysis from the wreckage scene, experts concluded that there was no evidence that anyone could survive the crash.
The identities of these 120 victims were determined using DNA technology.
Officials and all those attending the press conference late on March 26 stood up to pay a minute of silence to the victims of Flight MU5735.
China Eastern Airlines expressed condolences to the victims of the accident in a social media post on the evening of March 26 after officially confirming the tragedy.
Officials said at the press conference that they will continue to search for the victim's body to support the investigation into the cause of the plane crash.
