Can Tho - On the morning of January 22, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and his delegation visited, worked and celebrated Tet at Can Tho University.

Here, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong - Chairman of the School Council - reported on the school's strong development in the fields of engineering and technology, especially training in emerging fields such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

During the visit and New Year greetings, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his joy and sent his best wishes and warm congratulations to the school's Board of Directors, lecturers and students.

The National Assembly Chairman stated that the National Assembly always pays special attention to the education sector, including university education.

In 2023, the National Assembly supervised the implementation of Resolution No. 88 and Resolution No. 51 of the National Assembly on innovation of general education programs and textbooks and promptly resolved many difficulties of the sector. The National Assembly also discussed and is scheduled to pass the draft Law on Teachers at the session next May.

The National Assembly Chairman suggested that Can Tho University continue to promote its achievements, develop faster, with greater aspirations, become the leading university in the Mekong Delta and the region, cooperate internationally to train many excellent students and researchers, contribute to human resource development, and meet the requirements of building and defending the Fatherland.

The National Assembly Chairman hopes that each school lecturer will “be an example of morality, self-study and creativity”. To have generations of quality students, teachers must be virtuous and talented enough to inspire and motivate them.

The National Assembly Chairman believes that the school will continuously innovate and improve the quality of teaching and learning, actively contributing to "improving people's knowledge, training human resources, and nurturing talents", deserving to be a top university in the country.

Can Tho University, formerly known as Can Tho University Institute, was established in 1966 and is a key state university and postgraduate training institution in the Mekong Delta. Currently, the university is training 121 undergraduate majors, 51 graduate majors, and 21 doctoral majors.

The school has been leading the country in the number of teachers meeting the standards of professor and associate professor for two consecutive years, with 24 professors and 182 associate professors. This contributes to improving the quality of training and scientific research, while consolidating its core role in serving the socio-economic development of the Mekong Delta and the whole country.

The school also opened and enrolled 11 new majors/specializations in the fields of technology, science, education and economics, at the undergraduate, master's and doctoral levels.

In 2024, the school enrolled 9,583 full-time undergraduate students, 1,122 master's students, 78 doctoral students, 1,283 part-time undergraduate students, and 2,784 distance learning students.

Resolution No. 98/NQ-CP dated August 30, 2021 of the Government on the construction and development of Can Tho City to 2030, with a vision to 2045, mentioned upgrading Can Tho University to become a center for training high-quality human resources, research, and scientific application of Can Tho City and the Mekong Delta. From the success of the ODA - JICA project, the school is proposing that JICA consider the next phase, focusing on the fields of technology engineering (semiconductors, AI), in order to develop the school even more strongly.
